The touch controls that iPhone currently has will be available on Microsoft Windows 7. Even if there are some multi-touch PCs already on the market, such as the HP TouchSmart and the Dell Latitude XT, their small number and primitive touch input have not given them mass appeal.
Windows Touch will include feature controls such as tap and double tap, zoom, scroll, drag, flick and rotate. There are more details available on the Engineering Windows 7 blog.
Are these features going to be enough for the customers to pay extra? I am a fan of touch myself and will surely be interested in paying the money to get that. Am I a minority? Apple users tend to be more innovation-oriented, but how about all the people using Windows that expect a different cost-benefit option? Instead of Apple's development of touch pad features, Microsoft decided to focus on screen capabilities. Is that the way for the computers of the future? Will surely miss the keyboard and the sound of the buttons.
